The first few months of a school year can cause disillusionment for any teacher, but especially for novice educators. During this Focus Friday Session, beginning teachers will examine their current teaching practices in regards to classroom management and identify ways to engage students in learning. In addition, beginning teachers will use data from administrative evaluations and classroom assessments to improve student performance. Come find ways to reset your focus, manage responsibilities, and create joy in the day-to-day art of teaching.

How can digital tools support writing instruction in middle grades classrooms?  Using the NC ELA standards for writing, participants will explore new strategies for teaching writing while integrating innovative digital tools. Sessions will include using mini lessons to teach writing alongside reading and using digital tools to support writing instruction. Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across NC, and create a unit of writing to implement in their classrooms. This program is designed for language arts teachers and instructional coaches in grades 4-9.

Fall of 2021 will be a fresh start for our students. How do we ensure our teaching practices honor students’ needs and help accelerate students to grade level learning? Based on the book, Rebound (2021), and recent NCTM research, this session will focus on strategies that empower students to access grade level learning.
