NCCAT Hosts Third Fall Curriculum Conference

The North Carolina Center for Advancement of Teaching held the third NCCAT Fall Conference for Curriculum Leaders on September 11-13. Curriculum leaders from across the state joined NCCAT, a recognized national leader in professional development programming.

The agenda, based on conversations with curriculum leaders regarding essential professional development, allowed conference attendees to identify their district’s needs and give feedback concerning future NCCAT programming.

Ocracoke School will hold secondary classes at NCCAT campus while Hurricane Dorian recovery continues

CULLOWHEE - The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching Board of Trustees responded to needs of Ocracoke School after significant damage to the school building by Hurricane Dorian.
 
The NCCAT Board of Trustees voted Friday unanimously to allow Ocracoke School to use the NCCAT Ocracoke Campus building for secondary classes until January 2020. Other buildings on the Island will also be used for students during the recovery period.
 

NCCAT Development Foundation establishes Hurricane Dorian Employee Relief Fund

Ocracoke residents and others in surrounding communities are beginning the recovery process from the devastating damage of Hurricane Dorian. The Development Foundation of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, Inc., has established the NCCAT Hurricane Dorian Employee Relief Fund to provide much-needed support for NCCAT current and past staff on Ocracoke Island.

CULLOWHEE - The NCCAT Board of Trustees will meet Friday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. in a special called meeting via conference call at the NCCAT Cullowhee Campus, 276 NCCAT Drive, Cullowhee, NC 28723.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and potentially take action on Ocracoke School using the NCCAT Ocracoke facility.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to our NCCAT employees at Ocracoke Island and those who are recovering from Hurricane Dorian. All our employees are safe. How do you create an environment where every student has access to what they need to succeed? Critical factors in supporting students include defining our core, developing structures of equity and access for all, and creating a data-based implementation plan. We will delve into all of these to help you leave with a plan to scale up your support for students. We will explore interventions, accommodations, and modifications; determine our nonnegotiables; and learn about monitoring for success.

The Focus Friday programs offer teachers the opportunity to look into a variety of topics while at NCCAT, a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers, for a day. Come be a part of NCCAT’s daylong professional development session. Breakfast and lunch is included. The programs will be at the NCCAT Cullowhee campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
