CULLOWHEE - Wells Fargo Corporate Giving has awarded a grant of $5,000 to the Development Foundation to support literacy programs for North Carolina teachers. The program will target 24 teachers from the more economically distressed counties in western North Carolina, those designated as Tier 1 or 2 by the NC Department of Commerce.

The essential components of this NCCAT program cover the concept of leadership before drilling into the specifics of teacher leadership. Educators explore the elements of leadership, teacher leadership potential, personality traits, group dynamics, mentoring, problem solving, teacher leadership standards, and implementing teacher leadership roles in the school setting.

CULLOWHEE - The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching is pleased to announce the NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Award. The award program is designed to honor and retain excellent North Carolina teachers and education leaders among the 7000 beginning teachers recruited annually.
