NCCAT Development Foundation establishes Hurricane Dorian Employee Relief Fund

Ocracoke residents and others in surrounding communities are beginning the recovery process from the devastating damage of Hurricane Dorian. The Development Foundation of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, Inc., has established the NCCAT Hurricane Dorian Employee Relief Fund to provide much-needed support for NCCAT current and past staff on Ocracoke Island.

CULLOWHEE - The NCCAT Board of Trustees will meet Friday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. in a special called meeting via conference call at the NCCAT Cullowhee Campus, 276 NCCAT Drive, Cullowhee, NC 28723.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and potentially take action on Ocracoke School using the NCCAT Ocracoke facility.

Critical factors in supporting students include defining our core, developing structures of equity and access for all, and creating a data-based implementation plan. We will delve into all of these to help you leave with a plan to scale up your support for students. We will explore interventions, accommodations, and modifications; determine our nonnegotiables; and learn about monitoring for success.

The Focus Friday programs offer teachers the opportunity to look into a variety of topics while at NCCAT, a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers, for a day. Come be a part of NCCAT’s daylong professional development session. Breakfast and lunch is included. The programs will be at the NCCAT Cullowhee campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Former banker selected as the NCCAT 2019-2020 Beginning Teacher of the Year for Hickory Public Schools

Eva Winkler, a former banker, has seen selected as the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2019-2020 Beginning Teacher of the Year for Hickory Public Schools.
 
Competing for the title against fourteen other HPS beginning teachers, Winkler is a first grade teacher at Jenkins Elementary School. This is her second year at Jenkins. She served as a kindergarten teacher during her first year at Jenkins and was previously a teacher for a portion of a school year with Webb A. Murray Elementary.
 

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools successful Teacher Leadership Institute

CULLOWHEE - Educators from Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools completed a successful Teacher Leadership Institute at NCCAT’s Cullowhee campus. The essential components of this NCCAT program cover the concept of leadership before drilling into the specifics of teacher leadership. Educators explore the elements of leadership, teacher leadership potential, personality traits, group dynamics, mentoring, problem solving, teacher leadership standards, and implementing teacher leadership roles in the school setting.

Rachel Somerville, 1st grade dual language teacher at Bruce Drysdale Elementary, has been selected as Henderson County Public Schools’ nominee for the NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Award.New in 2019, the “Beginning Teacher of the Year” process was developed by NCCAT-The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching to honor beginning teachers and to retain educators who show promise as excellent education leaders in #NCpublicschools.

NCCAT Announces Beginning Teacher of the Year Award

CULLOWHEE - The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching is pleased to announce the NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Award. The award program is designed to honor and retain excellent North Carolina teachers and education leaders among the 7000 beginning teachers recruited annually.

“NCCAT is a long-time supporter of teaching excellence and a natural expression of that support is to recognize the best of the beginning teachers in our state,” NCCAT Executive Director M. Brock Womble explained.
