Open to teachers in their first, second, or third year of teaching, this program supports motivated beginning teachers by strengthening their knowledge base and classroom expertise. Through experiential learning, teachers will explore pedagogical concerns including differentiated instruction, brain-compatible teaching, assessment, the effect of poverty on achievement and behavior, and classroom management. NCCAT Board Chairman and Future Executive Director Visit Cullowhee Campus

CULLOWHEE (December 11, 2015)—North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching Board of Trustees Chairman Linda Daves and future Executive Director Dr. M. Brock Womble visited the western North Carolina campus Dec. 8–9.

Daves and Womble talked with staff at a meeting on campus, visited with teachers from across the state of North Carolina who were on campus attending two programs during the week and met with Western Carolina University Chancellor David Belcher during their visit.

2014–2015 NCCAT Annual Report Available Online

CULLOWHEE (December 3, 2015)—The 2014–2015 North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching annual report has been released. NCCAT remains focused on impacting students, supporting teachers, and responding to state initiatives. NCCAT more than doubled the number of teachers served from two years ago.

NCPDK Visits NCCAT

In early November, the North Carolina Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa’s first cohort of Emerging Leaders gathered together in Cullowhee at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers.

Twenty of North Carolina’s top leaders spent a day and a half learning about change leadership. Melissa Nixon, Director of Title I Guilford Public Schools, wrote a blog about the experience.

NCCAT Solution and Planning Teams Provide Time and Space

CULLOWHEE (November 24, 2015)—The NCCAT Solution and Planning Teams program offers educators an opportunity to meet in a residential setting devoid of distraction to create and advance departmental, school, or district-wide projects. These projects might consist of new programming, research, planning, or curricula. Early grades literacy or digital learning projects will be given preference. All projects will be considered.
