Thanks to generous grants by the Appalachian Regional Commission made a Teacher Leadership Insititue with Burke, Clay and Graham Counties possible a the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.

CULLOWHEE—A meeting of the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching will be held starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 1, in Cullowhee. The meeting will be held at 276 NCCAT Drive, Cullowhee, NC 28723.

CULLOWHEE - Educators were able to learn and share during a day of professional development at EdCampWNC Saturday, Oct. 12 at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.

OCRACOKE - NCCAT welcomed Ocracoke School middle and high school students back to school Monday.

The North Carolina Center for Advancement of Teaching held the third NCCAT Fall Conference for Curriculum Leaders on September 11-13. Curriculum leaders from across the state joined NCCAT, a recognized national leader in professional development programming.

The agenda, based on conversations with curriculum leaders regarding essential professional development, allowed conference attendees to identify their district’s needs and give feedback concerning future NCCAT programming.

Ocracoke residents and others in surrounding communities are beginning the recovery process from the devastating damage of Hurricane Dorian. The Development Foundation of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, Inc., has established the NCCAT Hurricane Dorian Employee Relief Fund to provide much-needed support for NCCAT current and past staff on Ocracoke Island.

CULLOWHEE - The NCCAT Board of Trustees will meet Friday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. in a special called meeting via conference call at the NCCAT Cullowhee Campus, 276 NCCAT Drive, Cullowhee, NC 28723.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and potentially take action on Ocracoke School using the NCCAT Ocracoke facility.

CULLOWHEE - How do you create an environment where every student has access to what they need to succeed?

CULLOWHEE - Wells Fargo Corporate Giving has awarded a grant of $5,000 to the Development Foundation to support literacy programs for North Carolina teachers. The program will target 24 teachers from the more economically distressed counties in western North Carolina, those designated as Tier 1 or 2 by the NC Department of Commerce.

CULLOWHEE - Educators from Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools completed a successful Teacher Leadership Institute at NCCAT’s Cullowhee campus. The essential components of this NCCAT program cover the concept of leadership before drilling into the specifics of teacher leadership. Educators explore the elements of leadership, teacher leadership potential, personality traits, group dynamics, mentoring, problem solving, teacher leadership standards, and implementing teacher leadership roles in the school setting.

CULLOWHEE - The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching is pleased to announce the NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Award. The award program is designed to honor and retain excellent North Carolina teachers and education leaders among the 7000 beginning teachers recruited annually.

“NCCAT is a long-time supporter of teaching excellence and a natural expression of that support is to recognize the best of the beginning teachers in our state,” NCCAT Executive Director M. Brock Womble explained.

CULLOWHEE - Take the indoor classroom outside and bring STEM to life. Using various tools such as GooseChase, Geocaching, iNaturalist, and others, learn to use the “outside” as your main STEM tool.
