NCCAT Announces Beginning Teacher of the Year Award

CULLOWHEE - The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching is pleased to announce the NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Award. The award program is designed to honor and retain excellent North Carolina teachers and education leaders among the 7000 beginning teachers recruited annually.

“NCCAT is a long-time supporter of teaching excellence and a natural expression of that support is to recognize the best of the beginning teachers in our state,” NCCAT Executive Director M. Brock Womble explained.

Instructional coaches professional development from NCCAT

Instructional Coaches join NCCAT on September 20th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Cullowhee to learn about supporting teachers with instructional practices in your schools. This one-day professional development "14975: Focus Friday - Coaching Instructional Initiatives" will focus on best practices for implementing instructional initiatives, and strategies for leading professional learning communities that empower teachers.

Governor Cooper appoints four members to NCCAT Board of Trustees

CULLOWHEE - Governor Roy Cooper has appointed four new members to the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching Board of Trustees.

Newly appointed trustees are Dr. Catherine Edmonds of Merry Hill, Dr. Terry W. Worrell of Greensboro, Justin Parmenter of Charlotte, and Julie Paige Pittman of Rutherfordton. All four were appointed to serve until October 31, 2021.

NCCAT Announces Changes to Board of Trustees

CULLOWHEE - The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching announces a new Chairman and Vice Chairman to its Board of Trustees. The Board recently elected Dr. Aaron L. Fleming as Chairman and Vice Chair Jeffery T. Clark. The Board also thanked Linda Daves the previous Board of Trustees Chairman and Fletcher "Gene" McIntyre for their vital service to the Board.

Region 8 Math Collaborative at NCCAT on August 16th

CULLOWHEE - As we begin the 2019-2020 school year, the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching would like to extend an opportunity for networking and collaboration on August 16th for Region 8 districts. The program is 14966: Region 8 Math Collaborative in Cullowhee. District leaders, school leaders, and teachers are invited to explore conceptual modeling for the NC Math Standards and make plans to partner with NCCAT for professional learning in your district.

Professional development - Number Talks: Making it Happen!

CULLOWHEE - Join us on August 19th to begin the school year facilitating number talks with your students. The program is number 14967  "Number Talks: Making it Happen!" in Cullowhee. As students grow in mathematics, their abilities to work flexibly with numbers and communicate their thinking should be routinely practiced.

This one-day program will teach the strategy of number talks, which is a five to fifteen-minute math dialogue designed to grow students’ mental math strategies.

Jackson County Students Demonstrate Lego Robotics for NCCAT Participants

CULLOWHEE – Lego teams from three Jackson County schools showed teachers how it is done at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching during the “Lego Robotics 2.0” program on April 9-12

Educators spent four days learning about the N.C. FIRST LEGO LEAGUE and how they can use Lego Robotics with their own students.
