The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) will hold a five-session series focused on a research-to-practice exploration of the foundational skills in early literacy. Effective instruction in these fundamental components holds the key to life-long learning for every child in your classroom.

Attend all five sessions and earn an NCCAT Literacy Badge or attend individual sessions to deepen your own understanding of the building blocks of beginning reading. 

Three NCCAT alumni among nine North Carolina Regional Teachers of the Year selections

Congratulations to the three NCCAT alumni who were among the recently named nine North Carolina Regional Teachers of the Year.

Nine teachers from across North Carolina have been selected as the state’s regional Teachers of the Year for their dedication, innovation and ability to inspire students to achieve.

Teachers from across North Carolina have been selected as finalists for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2021 Prudential NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award in honor of their dedication, innovation, and ability to inspire students to achieve.

One of these talented educators will be named the NCCAT 20201 Prudential NC Beginning Teacher of the Year. The award is scheduled to be presented on April 15, 2021, at the NCCAT Cullowhee Campus.

NCCAT presents - NC Grades 2-8: Routines for Reasoning in the Math Classroom

How do we encourage students to think as mathematicians? This program, based on the book Routines for Reasoning, will explore a range of routines that can be used in the classroom to facilitate students’ mathematical reasoning. Utilizing the eight mathematical practices, the routines learned in this program will empower teachers to help students scaffold word problems, develop deeper understandings of quantities, and make connections to big ideas in math.
