15394 - Focus Thursday: Building Comprehension Skills 3-5 - Virtual
Note: Virtual course. Two hours, 30 parts.
This program will explore the science of reading and the balance needed to ensure students understand and make sense of text. Teachers will discuss the value of immersing their students in diverse texts to build background knowledge. Additionally, teachers will explore ways in which to engage students in discussing and writing about text.
15373 - Thinking With A Pencil: Exploring Writing As A Tool For Thought - Virtual
Note: This program will be virtual.
Designed for teachers in grades K–3.
Discover new ways to turn reading strategies into writing opportunities that deepen comprehension and extend student learning. This intensive, interactive program will focus on the power of the teacher as the mentor-model in exploring multiple tools for unlocking thinking in the classroom—through the process of uncovering your own writing life. Strategies will include the use of journal responses, writing as inquiry across the content areas, and the power of authentic interactions with poetry and prompts.
15405 - Supporting Instructional Coaches to Lead the Way - Cullowhee
Supporting the practices of instructional coaches is critical in NC schools. This program will prepare coaches for this ever-changing profession. Coaches will articulate their coaching beliefs and learn strategies to strengthen relationships. We will focus on having critical conversations and establishing productive Professional Learning Communities with students’ success in mind.
