NCCAT BTOY Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for nomination as an NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year, teachers must have the following:
- Successful completion of 1st year of teaching in a NC public school.
- Continued employment in the same school district or charter school for 2nd year.
- Met minimum full year of teaching as determined by NC Department of Public Instruction.
- Lateral entry experience and Teach for America experience meet requirements.
- Must teach students directly for at least 70% of the time.
*Please note, in order to submit an application, you must be nominated by your school district.
NCCAT BTOY Portfolio Requirements
The portfolio application includes the following information:
- Information form
- Two essays completed by the nominee
- Two essays completed by administrator, mentor, colleague, or parent/ guardian of a student
- Three letters of recommendation
