For this year’s timeline, please see information below.

  1. NCCAT will email the Superintendent and Beginning Teacher Coordinator for each district when the BTOY nomination period opens. The email will include the nomination period dates and a link to the nomination form.
  2. Once your district has selected a nominee, please submit their name, email address, and other information requested on the form linked in this email.
    1. If your district requires additional time to submit a nominee, please reach out to Emily Langdon at [email protected].
    2. If your district will not have an eligible teacher to nominate for this year, please email [email protected].
    3. NCCAT will not contact your nominee until the nomination period closes. If you plan to surprise your nominee after nominations close, please email that information to [email protected] and a staff member will confirm with you.
  3. All nominees will be contacted, unless otherwise noted, in the days after the nomination period closes. The congratulatory email will include the application due date and a PDF copy of the application, as well as a link to where the application can be downloaded from the NCCAT website.
    1. If you are a nominee and need additional time to complete your application, please email Emily Langdon at [email protected]
  4. Using a detailed rubric, the Regional Education Service Alliance for each of the eight regions will review and score all applications for the districts in their region, and the DPI Office of Charter Schools will review and score the applications from each charter school nominee. The top three scorers from each region and the charter schools will be recognized as the 27 NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Finalists.
  5. The finalists will attend a week of professional development with a variety of sessions. During this week the NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Selection Committee will interview each finalist, and with a detailed rubric, score the finalists on the interview as well as one piece of their portfolio.
  6. The top two scorers will be recognized as the NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year and Runner-Up at an awards ceremony at the end of the week.
    1. Details regarding the awards ceremony will be emailed to finalists, Superintendents, and Beginning Teacher Coordinators once available.
