NCCAT BTOY
The NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Selection Process was developed to recognize the unique challenges and achievements new teachers experience during their first year in the classroom. Supporting and encouraging new teachers is paramount to developing the caring, strong professionals we all want instructing our North Carolina students.
Each school district and charter school may nominate one beginning teacher annually to submit a portfolio to be considered one of the 27 Beginning Teacher of the Year Finalists. These finalists will attend a week of professional development, during which time the NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Selection Committee will interview each finalist. The winner of the NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year will be announced at a recognition celebration at the end of the week.
The NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year will receive:
- $5,000 cash prize
- Participation in a GoGlobal NC trip
- Instructional supply funds for the teacher’s school
Runner-Up:

All finalists will receive:
- Travel expenses and substitute costs to participate in NCCAT professional and leadership development.
