14012 • STRATEGIES FOR SURVIVING AND THRIVING THE 90–MINUTE BLOCK - CULLOWHEE
Tuesday, December 8, 2015 to Friday, December 11, 2015
Located at 276 NCCAT Drive, Cullowhee, NC 28723
Designed for English language arts secondary teachers.
When faced with the prospect of a 90-minute instructional period, many teachers panic or despair. What am I supposed to do with all that time? The block schedule offers tremendous opportunity to attain deeper understanding and more rigorous investigations of the curriculum. To achieve these goals, however, requires a wholesale reimagining of what can and should happen during class. It further asks teachers to take on multiple roles, many of which may be new and uncomfortable. This program will engage teachers in several 90-minute blocks, providing them with mental models of what can be achieved during that time. Participants will then have the opportunity to plan their own block instruction and receive feedback from peers in a risk-free environment.
