Their distance from the mainland, their close proximity to the continental shelf, and the confluence of the Labrador Current and Gulf Stream all add to the singular nature of this part of our state. In partnership with the North Carolina Coastal Federation, this seminar will focus on the formation and stability of these landforms, the seasonal effects of storms, the science behind these physical events and the real-time digital tools that now allow students and teachers to track and understand data related to geologic and atmospheric phenomena. Return to your classroom with a better understanding of the islands and with research-based distance learning resources that will allow your students to encounter and understand the Outer Banks.
