CULLOWHEE (May 10, 2016)—A team from Elizabeth Duncan Koontz Elementary School in Salisbury made the most of a Solution and Planning team program at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a national leader in professional development.

CULLOWHEE (May 3, 2016)—Teachers know better than anyone else that learning doesn’t stops in the summer. The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a national leader in professional development, is committed to providing high-quality professional development that helps keep the learning going.

With topics including digital learning, early grades literacy, beginning teachers and more available, the summer is a great to have an NCCAT experience.

Here are a few offerings coming up:

CULLOWHEE (April 29, 2016)—A meeting of the board of trustees of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, at the Public School Forum of North Carolina in Raleigh.

CULLOWHEE (April 25, 2016)—EdCampWNC continues to grow as a day of learning and sharing for educators. The fourth EdCampWNC drew the most participants of any previous event with 100 on April 23 at The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a national leader in professional development.

CULLOWHEE (April 22, 2016)—Around 80 participants attended the Fontana Regional Library annual in-service training at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development, on April 18.

Wake County Public School System Superintendent Dr. James Merrill, Apex High School, and the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development, joined together to provide an excellent discussion on the American Dream during a Socratic Seminar with 30 AP English III students.

CULLOWHEE (April 6, 2016)—Sue Nations and Kathy Wong bring respected education leadership backgrounds to new roles at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development.

The application period for the 2016–17 North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching Honored Educator Scholarships ends April 30, 2016.

NCCAT's Honored Educator Scholarship Program pays tribute to outstanding educators and individuals whose teaching or influence in public education has made a positive difference in the lives of others.

Scholarship funds provide:

-       Instruction and program materials

-       Substitute teacher reimbursement

CULLOWHEE (March 16, 2016)—Teachers from across North Carolina had time to dig deeper into what literacy instruction should look like in today’s classroom during a four-day program at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development programming for our state’s teachers.

“Literacy Instruction to Promote Critical Thinking” investigated intentional instruction that promotes critical thinking skills.

CULLOWHEE (March 9, 2016)—Governor Pat McCrory has appointed Jeffery (Jeff) T. Clark of Jacksonville and Robin M. Hiatt of Clayton to the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), a recognized national leader in professional development programming for our state’s teachers.

CULLOWHEE (March 8, 2016)—Educators often find themselves overwhelmed with the constant changes in digital technology and have difficulty utilizing these new tools to modify instruction. To help teachers, the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), a recognized national leader in professional development programming for our state’s teachers, will present “Strategies for Teaching and Learning in a Digital Environment” in Cullowhee May 31–June 3.

CULLOWHEE (February 26, 2016)—Governor Pat McCrory has appointed Douglas Scott Penland of Hayesville, and reappointed Elaine Boone of Burnsville, and Greg West of Fayetteville to the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), a recognized national leader in professional development programming for our state’s teachers.

CULLOWHEE (February 23, 2016)—The North Carolina Connections Academy came to the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching February 16–18 for a “Solution and Planning Teams” program.

NCCAT faculty member Elizabeth Joyce (digital learning) and Deb Teitelbaum (teamwork) made presentations.

The training’s emphasis on online instruction tied into Digital Learning Day, a national campaign to highlight teaching practices and showcase technology innovations. NCCAT is a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers.
