Now more than ever, it is time to empower our math learners with strategies that honor students’ strengths and propel problem-solving forward. In this session, we will discuss student-centered practices that move learning beyond simply finding the “correct answer.” We will learn strategies for problem-solving instructional routines as well as protocols to facilitate tasks in the math classroom. NCCAT presents - NC Grades 2-8: Routines for Reasoning in the Math Classroom
How do we encourage students to think as mathematicians? This program, based on the book Routines for Reasoning, will explore a range of routines that can be used in the classroom to facilitate students’ mathematical reasoning. Utilizing the eight mathematical practices, the routines learned in this program will empower teachers to help students scaffold word problems, develop deeper understandings of quantities, and make connections to big ideas in math.
