Celebrating Excellence in Education! NCCAT visits Haywood County Board of Education to honor BTOY

NCCAT had the honor of attending the Haywood County Schools Board of Education Meeting on Monday night, where we celebrated the outstanding achievement of Abigail Bentley, a teacher at Pisgah High School. Abigail was recently named the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2024 Empower NC Beginning Teacher of the Year! Thank you, Haywood County Schools Superintendent Dr. Trevor Putnam and Haywood County Schools, for all you do!

Dive into the fascinating world of tabletop gaming and design thinking with our upcoming program - "Your Move: Harnessing Design Thinking using Tabletop Games" at NCCAT Cullowhee! Participants will learn a variety of contemporary game mechanics then tap into design thinking approaches to build original tabletop games and consider how this experience might be used to create powerfully engaging classroom lessons. Sessions coming up in May and July.

16828 - Empowering Elementary Mathematics: Supporting Fluency and Number Sense at Ocracoke

Now more than ever, students need to be empowered to flourish as confident mathematical thinkers. Join us as we develop a deeper understanding of procedural fluency and number sense. Sessions for this program will include number sense routines, counting collections, fluency routines and games. This program is designed for math educators in grades K-5. (Ocracoke)

NCCAT will hold a four-day six-session series focused on a research-to-practice exploration of the foundational skills in early literacy. Effective instruction in these fundamental components holds the key to life-long learning for every child in your classroom. You will earn an NCCAT Literacy Badge while deepening your own understanding of the building blocks of beginning reading. If participants would like to stay an extra day (Friday), this session will be a “train the trainer” day and participants will be able to share their new knowledge as an NCCAT Literacy Learning Leader with their district or neighboring districts.
