It was NCCAT's pleasure to receive a book donation from alumna Jan Carmichael this week. Jan was with us for "Promoting Early Grades Literacy Through the Arts" in Cullowhee, where teachers learned ways to integrate arts education across the curriculum. Jan has been doing that in creative ways at Doris Henderson Newcomers School in Guilford County.
She is the author of two books for children, including the recently released "Deputy Dogs." The book features the North Carolina state dog - Plott Hounds. The Amazon book description says, "Deputy Dogs is the story of two Plott Hounds that became members of the Guilford County Sheriff's Department as puppies in 2013. Why were Plott Hounds chosen? Was this a successful decision? Written from Kodie's perspective, learn about Kodie and Sadie as they begin their training and adventures to become Deputy Dogs."
Jan was kind enough to donate a copy to us while she was at NCCAT for our library in Cullowhee. She gave her students a valuable lesson by letting them see the process of getting a book published, and we're glad to say she is working on another book soon. Click here for more on the book.
Thank you Jan!
