he North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) is proud to announce that Renee Bunn, a third-grade teacher at Rock Ridge Elementary in Wilson County Schools, has been awarded the Elsie Brame Hunt and Noma Henderson Leonard NCCAT Honored Educator Scholarship.
Established by former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt and First Lady Carolyn Hunt, this esteemed scholarship honors the legacies of their mothers—Elsie Brame Hunt and Noma Henderson Leonard—both dedicated educators. Elsie Brame Hunt served as an English teacher and librarian in Wilson, Johnston, and Guilford counties, concluding her career at Rock Ridge High School, where her sons, Jim and Robert Hunt, graduated. Noma Henderson Leonard, of pioneering stock, taught in a one-room schoolhouse that still stands near Colfax, Iowa.
Ms. Bunn utilized this scholarship to attend NCCAT’s "All Kids Can Write" professional development program at Ocracoke, where she engaged in enriching learning experiences designed to enhance literacy instruction for her students.
