The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) is thrilled to partner with Jackson County Public Schools' Career and Technical Education (CTE) program to offer hands-on learning opportunities. Jackson Bowers, a student at Smoky Mountain High School in Sylva, will be gaining valuable work experience by assisting Joshua Brooks, the NCCAT Cullowhee Grounds Supervisor, for approximately 8 hours each week.
CTE programs focus on equipping students with practical skills to prepare them for future careers. Through this partnership, NCCAT aims to provide students like Jackson Bowers with a chance to explore career paths while contributing to NCCAT's mission of supporting teachers who shape student success across North Carolina.
“NCCAT has long recognized the crucial role of Career and Technical Education in preparing the next generation of skilled professionals,” said Dr. M. Brock Womble, NCCAT Executive Director. “This internship opportunity with Jackson County Public Schools reflects our commitment to fostering these educational opportunities, which align with our mission of supporting teachers who make a lasting impact on students statewide.”
This collaboration also highlights NCCAT's dedication to CTE through the NCCAT 2024 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher of the Year Award program. The 2024 CTE Teacher of the Year will be announced during a celebration event on October 3, 2024. The winner will be chosen from 24 finalists who will attend a week of professional development and events at NCCAT’s Cullowhee campus from September 30 to October 4. During this time, the NCCAT CTE TOY Selection Committee will review portfolios and conduct interviews with the finalists. For more on this program click here.
