Educators from around North Carolina joined the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) for the NCCAT Conference for Curriculum Leaders on Sept. 13-15 at the Cullowhee campus.
More than 90 participants were part of the three-day conference that allowed state Curriculum Leaders to collaborate and share ideas for this upcoming school year. The agenda for the NCCAT conference was based on feedback from curriculum leaders. Conference attendees were able to identify needs in their districts and give feedback on future NCCAT programming decisions.
Topics included: NCDPI Curriculum updates, Teaching Practices, Boosting Staff Motivation, and more.
The conference was led by NCCAT Deputy Executive Director Dr. Karen Sumner. Speakers for the conference included: North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Deputy Superintendent Dr. Michael Maher; Leading Great Learning Consultant Mike Anderson; NCDPI Office of Research & Evaluation Dr. Jeni Corn; NCDPI Director of Office of Early Learning Amy Rhyne; NCDPI Assistant Director for Early Literacy Kelly Bendheim and several others, including NCCAT faculty, in breakout sessions for participants.
The conference began in 2016 to seek input from curriculum leaders across the state. It helps NCCAT build relationships with leaders in school districts across the state. Plans are already in progress for next year’s conference.
Sponsors for the event were Branching Minds, Edmentum, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and Instructure.
