Thank you to NCCAT alum and North Carolina Teacher of the Year Mariah Morris for a wonderful year. We appreciate all you did this year and will continue to do for education!
Mariah posed the following farewell at the end of her year ...
Today is my last day as the 2019-20 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year! My year definitely ended a little differently than I had planned due to COVID, but what an exciting, meaningful, special, and at times crazy year this has been.
If I had the privilege of meeting you or connecting with you this past year: thank you. Thank you for sharing your stories with me. Thank you for opening your classrooms, schools, and districts to me, so I could be a better advocate for our children and teachers. Thank you for pumping me up with your passion and enthusiasm for our students and schools. Thank you for being part of this wonderful, diverse, and beautiful organization we call #nced! It may not be perfect, but it is ours. I look forward to staying in touch and following YOUR education journeys in the years to come. I am infinitely richer in friendships after this past year, and I thank you for that gift.
For my personal journey, I am jumping back into Moore County Schools with excitement and enthusiasm as I join our district team as the Innovation and Special Projects Coordinator. I am excited for this next step, and I look forward to working with the amazing district leaders, school leaders, teachers, and students of Moore County Schools. It feels good to be home.
