CULLOWHEE - Sixty-two North Carolina Teaching Fellows representing five universities were at NCCAT in Cullowhee on April 5-6.
Schools represented were: Elon, Meredith College, NC State, UNC Chapel Hill and UNC Charlotte. It was the first time Fellows from the program had a chance to meet each other. Dr. Karen Sumner and Dr. Bonnie Bolado of NCCAT led professional development during the weekend. Topics included the importance of classroom culture and how to build meaningful student relationships.
The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program is a competitive, merit-based forgivable loans for service program that provides up to $4,125 a semester ($8,250 a year) for up to four years to highly-qualified students committed to teaching special education or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) field in a North Carolina public school.
