NCCAT Honored Educator Scholarship Applications open

Honored Educator Scholarships (HES) provide an opportunity for selected teachers to attend an NCCAT seminar of their choice. An HES covers all costs associated with participation in a five-day NCCAT seminar, including program materials, instruction, food, lodging, transportation, and substitute teacher. The honored educator also receives $250 for use in the classroom. Applications for 2023 are currently being accepted. The application period will close on April 30.

SAMR in Action program this May at NCCAT in Cullowhee

SAMR is a helpful framework for mindfully integrating technology. The acronym stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. Participants in this seminar will learn approaches for Modifying and Redefining lessons through technology as they rewrite lessons with the support of colleagues. This program is appropriate for teachers grades 3-12.

NCCAT at Buncombe County Schools for Coaches Academy

NCCAT visited Buncombe County Schools recently as Chief Academic Officer Dr. Bonnie Bolado led instructional coaches in professional development during the Buncombe County Schools Coaches Academy. Would you like NCCAT to come to your district or school? NCCAT offers a variety of K–12 school-based programs available to public schools and districts across the state of North Carolina.

Bringing Learning to Life Through Movement at NCCAT Cullowhee

Join NCCAT April 24-27 for "Bringing Learning to Life Through Movement" in Cullowhee. A wealth of research supports the hypothesis that physical activity can boost comprehension, retention, and self-regulation in students of all achievement levels. Teachers who build movement into their lessons have students who are more engaged. Teachers will learn a variety of strategies for integrating instruction with physical activity, but not at the expense of intellectual rigor.

Expanding your Tech Toolbox: Getting the Most out of Digital Learning in April with NCCAT

Digital learning is a broad category encompassing digital resources and technology to enhance and differentiate instruction. However, the number of available options can be overwhelming. Participants in this course will gain experience with free, high-quality tools for video and audio production, blended lessons, curating digital content, and assessment. Participants will expand their toolboxes by practicing with 1 or 2 high-quality tech tools for each topic area.

Polk County School Board celebrates William J. Miller NCCAT Scholarship

During a regular meeting, the Polk County Board of Education recognized the full funding of the William J. Miller NCCAT Honored Educator Scholarship Monday, February 13.  The William J. Miller Honored Educator Scholarship has been created to honor Mr. Miller, who retired after a distinguished career in Polk County Schools as a teacher, coach, principal, administrator, and superintendent.

NCCAT hosts Teacher Leadership Institute: Teacher of the Year program in Ocracoke

NCCAT again proudly presented the "Teacher Leadership Institute: Teacher of the Year" program in Ocracoke on Feb. 6-10. North Carolina's 2023 Teachers of the Year were invited to join us in examining educational leadership and positive responses to institutional change. This group spent hours in sessions discovering how to continue their growth as educational professionals.

Canvas - Time to Design at NCCAT Ocracoke in March

Canvas is a useful tool whether it s for fully online courses or to create modules for a blended teaching approach, but who has the time and support to craft great Canvas resources? This program will give teachers exactly that - the time and support needed to accomplish their Canvas design goals. Teachers will learn best practices for building lessons, assignments, discussions, and modules while being supported in their work.

The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) Board of Trustees will convene a meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the NCCAT Cullowhee campus, located at 276 NCCAT Drive, Cullowhee, NC, 28723. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss recent legislative matters.
