North Carolina is committed to ensuring that all students who graduate are college and career ready reflected in part by their proficiency in reading. How do we accomplish this goal in a world that frequently offers reluctant readers limited resources, limited access, and limited expectations? Explore underlying factors-such as socioeconomic status, gender, culture, and the lack of access to community libraries-that contribute to poor reading habits. Learn how you can be part of the solution as we explore the most effective strategies for motivating reluctant readers. Work collaboratively with other educators and program faculty to identify needs and develop strategies to implement reading programs in your school and community. Return to your school with the courage to inspire and empower your colleagues, your community, and, most importantly, your students.
